About the event

It is something of a paradox that people are living longer today than at any time in the history of humankind, and yet a high percentage of people are beset by lifestyle conditions and suffering from chronic pain that is preventing them from living their twilight years to the full. Is there something we can do to stack the odds in our favour so that we are able to maintain our youthfulness for longer, enabling us to fully participate in life and do the things we enjoy for as long as possible?

We firmly believe that this is the case and that in spite of our genes, our daily habits, mindset, approach to life, and beliefs are instrumental in how well we age. In this presentation, we will draw lessons from the so-called 'Blue Zones', regions of the world made famous by Dan Buettner which are remarkable for their high proportion of healthy centenarians. We will also look at some of the other research that illustrates similar patterns as well as  examples where the ageing clock has seemingly been turned back. We will end by drawing together some of the key lifestyle behaviours that can make the difference between ageing well and ageing badly.
