LIVING WITHOUT ....

Living Without ... is a two class series, available together or as stand-alone classes in which we address two of the most prevalent dietary issues of modern times. 

Each class will provide information and above all, ideas and inspiration for looking at and enjoying food differently. Food samples will be available to demonstrate possible replacements for favourite foods along with suggestions for seeing the challenge of making changes as an opportunity to embrace a more health-supporting and, we believe, a more enjoyable way of eating. None of the samples will contain gluten or dairy irrespective of the class and, as with all of the food that we provide, they will be made with organic, mainly wholefood ingredients.

Each class will take place at Derwenthorpe in York. Full address details will be supplied when we receive your booking. Dates and times for the classes are published on our Calendar and Events page. Please see below for specific information about each class as well as booking information. 

 

LIVING WITHOUT GLUTEN

Living Without Gluten is intended for anyone for whom gluten is problematic whether that be a diagnosed condition or an apparent sensitivity. The class is also suitable for anyone who is simply curious about how to ease away from some of the types of foods that typically contain gluten and towards a way of eating that is likely to be beneficial to health. A large proportion of the gluten-containing foods that we typically eat are not just processed but often ultra-processed foods which are often further compromised by being sold in plastic packaging. We know that there is a different way to approach food and we're keen to share what we've learnt. Gluten is not an essential nutrient; living without it can be both enjoyable and easy as long as there is a willingness to get excited about doing some things differently.

LIVING WITHOUT DAIRY

Living Without Dairy is ideal for those needing to avoid dairy due to intolerance or allergy, but is equally relevant for vegetarians who are intending to transition to a fully vegan diet. It may also be of interest to anyone who would simply prefer to consume fewer dairy-based foods. Whilst milk products are not an essential part of any adult diet, some of the nutrients they contain are indeed vital and we will address this in the class, both in terms of what we have collectively come to believe about milk (leading sometimes to fear about giving it up), as well as how we can adequately obtain and absorb 'bone healthy' nutrients from plant sources. We have both lived without dairy for a number of years, one of us for almost two decades, and we are keen to help those who need or intend to do the same, to make food choices that make it easy and sustainable.
